MUSIC AND LYRICS

I just finished watching the movie Music and Lyrics and yeah! I'm way too late to watch it in cinemas so thanked goodness for DVDs.

As expected, it's a feel good movie. A good one if you just want to relax and want to feel again being in love even for just a short while.

Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore have chemistry and they look good together onscreen. The soundtrack is very catchy too particularly the song "Pop! Goes my heart". Hugh Grant's dance steps were superb! ha! ha! ha! especially when he did the move ala " starting a motorcycle" while shaking his hips to the tempo of the song... just imagine!

But what I love the most is the song " Way back into Love". I'm such a sucker for love songs grrrr!!!!!! Though at times I wish I am not.

Hmmmm... I think the storyline of the movie is somewhat similar to the musical play "They're playing our song". Well, it's just my opinion but I know I'm correct with this. To start with, in both the film and musical play , the main characters were artists - pianists & lyricists, both had a hit song in the end and both ended up together eventually.

And I LOVE BOTH!

I love the song and can't wait to play it again and again and again here!

Ooops! Here's a list of trivia first ( source : Wikipedia )

  • The film has an anachronism in the very first scene, which is the music video for "Pop! Goes My Heart." It dates the hit at 1984. However, the video features footage of Hugh Grant standing behind a Roland D-50 synthesizer, which was actually not released until 1987.
  • Martin Fry, lead singer of ABC, worked as Hugh Grant's vocal coach during production.
  • The film's title was officially changed to "Music and Lyrics" from "Music and Lyrics By..."
  • Adam Schlesinger, who composed the title track for That Thing You Do!, composed many of the songs in the film.
  • The film's director/producer/writer Marc Lawrence offered "Dance With Me Tonight" to Hugh Grant while he was trying to find the right song to sing during one scene. What he didn't tell him was that Marc's 13-year-old son, Clyde, wrote it. On the soundtrack, Clyde actually plays the piano.
  • Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant are actually singing in the film.
  • During the premiere in Amsterdam, a woman pretended to interview Hugh Grant but ended up handcuffing herself to him, and walking the red carpet with him.
  • A UK band called Pop! used the same name as Hugh Grant's fictional entourage, complete with the punctuating exclamation mark. They released three top 40 hits before disbanding.
" WAY BACK INTO LOVE "

I've been living with a shadow overhead
I've been sleeping with a cloud above my bed
I've been lonely for so long
Trapped in the past, I just can't seem to move on

I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away
Just in case I ever need em again someday
I've been setting aside time
To clear a little space in the corners of my mind

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
Oh oh oh

I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine
I've been searching but I just don't see the signs
I know that it's out there
There's got to be something for my soul somewhere

I've been looking for someone to shed some light
Not somebody just to get me through the night

I could use some direction
And I'm open to your suggestions

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart again
I guess I'm hoping you'll be there for me in the end
oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

There are moments when I don't know if it's real
Or if anybody feels the way I feel
I need inspiration
Not just another negotiation

All I want to do is find a way back into love
I can't make it through without a way back into love
And if I open my heart to you
I'm hoping you'll show me what to do
And if you help me to start again
You know that I'll be there for you in the end
oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
